I didn't build DreamIt because I saw a gap in the market.
I built it because I love leadership and
I'm frustrated by how rarely it's done well.

THE STORY

Johanna Ilves β€” founder of DreamIt leadership consulting

Hello, my name is Johanna.

I've spent over 13 years inside startups and high-growth companies β€” in HR, in recruitment, in organizational design. Close enough to see what actually happens when organizations are under pressure. Not from the outside looking in, but from the room where the real decisions get made.

What I kept seeing was the same pattern, over and over. Smart people. Real ambition. A strategy that made sense on paper. And then β€” somewhere between the boardroom and execution β€” something quietly broke. Not the tools. Not the technology. The leadership.

Not because the leaders were bad people. But because leadership in most organizations is lazy.

Direction gets lost in translation. Responsibility drifts. Communication becomes noise. The team stops being a team β€” and becomes a collection of individual performers pulling in slightly different directions.

In every organization I've worked with β€” even the good ones β€” some part of the chain has been missing. Sometimes it's visibility: leadership simply doesn't see what's happening underneath. Sometimes it's alignment: everyone is working hard, but in slightly different directions. Sometimes it's trust: people are performing, but protecting themselves at the same time.

You rarely see all five missing. But you almost never see all five working together. And when even one element is absent, the whole system underperforms β€” quietly, invisibly, until it doesn't.

That pattern β€” seeing which part of the chain was missing, and watching the consequences ripple through the organization β€” is what eventually became HEART. Not a theory built in a workshop. A system built from observation, from pattern recognition, from years of being close enough to see what actually breaks and why.

HEART is the answer to a question I kept asking: if we could see exactly where the leadership system is failing β€” before it shows up in results β€” what would we do differently?

WHAT I BELIEVE

I grew up loving team sports. And the thing that fascinates me about great sports teams is not the talent β€” it's the system.

The best teams are never built from the best individual performers. They are built from different strengths, pointed toward a shared vision, operating under clear values and rules. Everyone knows their role. Everyone understands what they are moving toward β€” together.

That's what great organizational leadership looks like too. And it's what's missing in most companies.

Leadership defaults too easily to a dominant, controlling energy. Hard lines. Top-down decisions. And when that doesn't work, the answer is usually more control.

I believe in something different. Leadership that is calm, directional and human. That listens before it decides. That communicates so clearly that every single person in the organization knows exactly what is expected of them β€” and what role they play in the shared journey.

Not soft. Not weak. Just honest about what actually drives performance.

The hardest thing I've had to say to leaders over the years is this: self-management is not a leadership philosophy. It's fear dressed up as empowerment. Real leadership means taking responsibility β€” for direction, for people, for outcomes. That takes courage. And it's rarer than it should be.

When AI started accelerating everything, I saw the same patterns I had always seen β€” but faster, and at a scale that most leadership teams weren't ready for.

The misalignment. The invisible overload. The trust that quietly erodes when nobody slows down long enough to address it. That's what brought me here. Not because AI is a threat β€” but because the human side of this transformation is where most organizations are quietly losing ground. And it's the part nobody is talking about.

I built DreamIt because I believe that how you lead through this matters as much as what tools you choose. Probably more.

THEN AI ARRIVED

I am not a strategy consultant who added leadership to the offering. I am not a coach who works on mindset.

I work at the intersection of leadership, people and data. Because I believe that the human side of organizations β€” trust, alignment, visibility, responsibility β€” should be as measurable as revenue or pipeline.

What gets measured gets managed. What gets understood gets scaled. We bring both into your leadership.

WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT

WHO AM I

Johanna Ilves β€” leadership consultant and founder of DreamIt

People who know me well would say I'm empathetic and sharp. That I read people and situations quickly. That I put others first β€” sometimes at my own expense. That I believe in agreements: if something is agreed, it is kept.

I care deeply about values. About doing things properly. About the kind of leadership that builds something real β€” not just something that looks good in a quarterly report.

I also have a sense of humor. Which helps. Because the conversations this work requires are not always easy ones.

This work is personal for me.
Every engagement starts with a real conversation
β€” not a sales pitch.

We start with a focused diagnostic.
No long commitment. No retainer. Just clarity.
