Deloitte's 2026 research confirms this — while worker access to AI grew by 50% in 2025, only 34% of organizations are truly reimagining how they work. The rest are optimizing efficiency while leaving the harder human questions untouched.

The bottleneck in AI transformation is not computational. It is the shortage of leaders who can bear moral accountability for decisions made at the intersection of human complexity and machine output.

IDC estimates that skills shortages driven by AI could cost the global economy up to $5.5 trillion — in product delays, quality issues, missed revenue, and impaired competitiveness. Over 90% of global enterprises are projected to face critical skills shortages this year.

More than 75% of high-performing organizations actively engage executives in leadership development activities, compared to just 39% of low-performing organizations. The differentiator is not the program — it is whether senior leaders model the behaviors being developed.

By 2030, 70% of the skills used in most jobs will have changed. 74% of executives expect AI to redefine leadership roles enterprise-wide by 2030, and two-thirds expect entirely new AI-driven leadership roles to emerge.

80% of C-suite executives believe AI will catalyze a broader culture shift — but fewer than 40% have defined what that culture should look like or who is responsible for shepherding it.

The compounding effect is critical to understand. A gap in judgment development today does not produce a gap in leadership quality today — it produces one five to ten years from now, when the leaders being developed now step into senior roles.
